I had a costly repair on my car, a brake job costing $700. I also keep a log of my miles. Is this an either or situation? Meaning either I take per mile deduction or take an itemize deduction for all my car expenses such as fuel and repairs. Then calculate the % of use for business for those expenses.
either or but not both

are you using the actual expense method or the mileage method?
the mileage includes everything, repairs, gas, oil, insurance, depreciation, etc
and this would have already been established as to what % is actually used for business
